Opportunity Tax Credit Scholarship Fund

Applications will be accepted from May 15, 2018 through May 31, 2018.

Scholarships are awarded to residents of Berks County who reside within the attendance boundary of a low-achieving K-12 school to attend a participating nonpublic school or a participating public school located in a school district outside the recipient’s school district of residence. A low achieving school is defined as a public elementary or secondary school ranking in the bottom 15% of its designation as an elementary or secondary school. This ranking is based upon the combined math and reading PSSA scores.

An eligible student is a school-age student who is a resident of Berks County, Pennsylvania, and who lives within the attendance boundaries of a low-achieving school (as determined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education annually), including an eligible student with a disability, and is a member of a household with an annual income no greater than $78,036 plus $15,608 for each dependent member of the household.

With respect to an eligible student with a disability, multiply the sum of $78,036 plus the allowance (s) of $15,608 per student and dependent, by the support level factor of 1.50 if the student is not enrolled in a special education school or by the support level factor of 2.993 if the student is enrolled as a student in a special education school. To be considered an eligible student with a disability, the student must meet the following criteria: 1) is either enrolled in a special education school or has otherwise been identified as a “child with a disability” as defined in Title 34 CFR 300.8; 2) needs special education and related services; 3) is enrolled in a school; and 4) is a member of a household that does not exceed the maximum annual household income.

Applicants who receive assistance will be notified by the end of June.. Applicants who do not receive assistance WILL NOT be notified.
