Jesse K. Cataldi Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was established in 2006 in memory of Jesse K. Cataldi. Jesse was a 1996 graduate of Antietam High School, where he was class salutatorian and played volleyball and soccer. A bright and energetic young man, Jesse attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he also played volleyball. He graduated from Drexel in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He was an assistant coach of the Red Rose Volleyball Club in Reading and was pursuing his passionate interest in the sport of volleyball when he died in an automobile accident on January 16, 2005, at the age of 27. Jesse was beloved by his family and friends and possessed an unusual ability to make others around him better because of his example.

Established by Jesse’s family and friends after his death, the purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships to one or more male or female graduates of Antietam High School who were participants on any Antietam High School athletic team in their senior year. The applicant must plan to further his or her education at a four-year college or university and must intend to pursue athletic activities in college. The applicant does not have to intend to play on the college athletic team, but must intend to be involved in athletic activities in some way at the college, (by way of example, and not limitation, helping to manage the college team or participating in the college recreation club program, or participating on the team). Preference may be given to applicants who participated on the high school volleyball team; or to students who participated on any Antietam High School athletic team in their senior year and intend to pursue an education in a computer science or information technology field at a four-year college or university, with the same characteristics described above. Recipients will be students who inspire others to do better, who are “team players,” and who are good citizens both in school and in the community.

Applications will be available for interested students to pick up at the Antietam High School Counseling Office in February and March. Application deadline: April 1st.
